The Restless Horizon
03:03
|
|||
Short of a minor miracle, short of a war
We may be doing these very things
ten years from today
The great universe spins on and on
Opening doors, but here we go again,
walking through the same ones anyway
Maybe the world is still out there?
Maybe the keys are all inside?
Maybe we’re hiding them away?
Come on let’s climb every mountain,
Let’s sail the ocean wide
Seek and you will find
Hide and you will seek nothing… and find it
I caught a glimpse of everything,
Was never so scared
But still it draws me, it calls me
The Restless Horizon.
One slender glimpse of paradise,
like nothing on earth, nothing so shocking,
Knocking, and waiting to widen…
One day the heroes surrender to the lovers within,
and find the answers come in the walking
Come on let’s climb every mountain
Let’s sail the ocean blue
Nothing here is true, there’s better things to do...

Some people are born to sing
Some people are born to flower
We’ve all got some Forget me Not
That lasts beyond life’s hour
The soul trapped in the span of time
Dreams beyond its being
Like a songbird may be in a cage
But sings of all its seeing.
Some men sing of war
and all that’s gone before us
Some of Gods and circumstance
The Happy and the Glorious
But I was born to sing of love
And search the earth for meaning
So as a songbird to a mate
I’ll wake you from your dreaming
And if you wonder where I’ve gone,
If you wished I’d carried on
Wake up for the cry of dawn
You’ll find me in the birdsong.
Cos everything that lives
must one day take it’s leaving
So give all you can give
And leave this world believing
All the world’s a stage…
A life that cycles forwards
What happens in our wake
Comes from the seeds we watered
So take the strengths of summers gone
And all the dreams you’re forming
And burn them brightly til your song
Returns with every morning
So if you wonder where I’ve gone,
If you wished I’d carried on
Wake up for the sound of morning
I'll be calling..
If you wonder where I’ve gone,
If you wished I’d carried on
Wake up for the cry of dawn
You’ll find me in the birdsong

When old Souls Fall in Love...
They kiss this world with foolishness
Like children playing games
Where no one wins or loses
Just feeling for the moment
when everything amuses
Cold hearts feel the sun
When old souls fall in love
When old souls leave the shore
They walk in slow but go right under
Have one eye on the world
And the other eye on wonder
Have one foot in the depths
While the other walks on water
Miracles sneak up
When old souls fall in love
When old souls find their trust
Their every age finds happiness
Their child and youth restored
Through knowing love's caress
The innocent, the wary, the wayward find their rest
Grieving hearts heal up
When old souls fall in love
The last great hope comes good
When old souls fall in love

Falling Upwards
03:30
|
|||
Once it was when summers took so long
days suspended time as we grew strong
With no beginning and no end
Beginning, and no... just to wake
And do it again
Now I'm watching children do the same
Round the circle goes and back again
Who understands the way things are?
We spark amongst the stars
Then gone without trace
But history knows your name;
And invites you to its flame
The years count less than this moment now
So hold on
Life's a three act play so don't pretend
You can make the first last til the end
You’ve got to pick up and let go
To let the story commence
No man is a strong as he may seem
Though some may learn the script
and play the scene
But when the story falls apart
it takes a broken heart for new light to get in
And let the mystery grow
And ease your troubled soul
We're falling upwards not falling down
So let go
We're growing new not just getting old
So hold on and open once again

To Be Strong
03:46
|
|||
All the way home she wanted to be strong
Eyes on the road & ears inside
her favourite songs
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
It’s a drive in on Saturday
Sometimes you got to look back to move on
She gathers stars like wishes in her hand
Washes with tears as water on a barren land
Then she’s Singing in the Rain
When the World Knows Your Name
Only the wild see the promised land!
And one day when her heroes know her name
And tell their children to do the same
All of those crazy break-me-down games
Will go down in flames
When only the truth remains
She turns the key but leaves the lights cold
Heals in the dark, befriending the unknown
But Someday My Prince Will Come
Someday We Will Overcome
Someday we all might be someone
So here’s to the wanderings that show where we belong
Here’s to the insults that tell us to be strong
Here’s to the bad things that happen to good guys
All the hard landings that tell us to fly
Here’s to bruises that piece our resistance
Here’s to the distance
And the finishing line

It’s a delicate matter, a contest from birth
With each passing second four more on this earth
Each shaped by the times,
the place and the show of their skin
And each one’s original and each one’s unique
But caught in the crossfire at history’s peak
The shape of the world gets clear
as the fabric wears thin
What is it, a mystery? A heavenly plot?
Or an accident of history you got what you got
At this time, in this place, in this skin?
There's the essence of human compressed
from the start In everyone’s nature,
in each one’s Heart
It waits to grow free and shake off the poisoned mind
It throws off the shackles that keeps a man down
It reshapes the future when it comes around
It blows on the wind to join up the human and kind
So can I request that you share out your lot
You are what you are cos you got what you got
At this time, in this place in this skin
They’ll make you hate others and feed your fear
And build up the borders and fight for dear life
But it comes back to get us, that’s history’s way
the peasants revolt and the empires decay
I’ve seen my reflection in so many colours,
In those gone before me, in faraway others
There’s something like me in all that I meet
So if you’ve got religion don’t let it destroy
If you got the weapons don’t kill the joy
You can’t shoot the spirit, can’t kill your way to peace
There is no force on earth that could
make a great nation
So share what you have as a gift of creation
at this time, in this place, in this skin

Judy and your kind
04:47
|
|||
I grew a tree where my secret heart
Had roots from longing deep and strong
Its trunk was hope which gave life into
Branches and leaves which every night held birds with songs of tender love.
And how I welcomed their voices
and how I sang out their words… but no fruit grew and Summer leaves turned red, and then brown,
and slowly fell down.
Until every day was Autumn,
and she was long gone...
Don’t plant trees alone
Wait until her love is shown.
- - - - - - -
All the lights have gone green
on my Happy Avenue
I can hear children sing as the sky turns blue.
Call this the test of time: you learn to too late
And there’s no rewinding… no rewind.
Every song has a voice that is waiting for a tune
Every tune has a dream that it comes out true
So raise your voice and sing
And cry for love in everything
Oh Judy (and your kind) I called you love1,000 times
But boys who dream alone make their ghosts at home
With each love lost song
There’s a hole in the sky that is
deep and dark & wild
It’s got a pull like the heart of a love-lost child
Don’t wish upon that star
But cry for love with all you are.
Yeah Judy, I’m alive,
I got broken down 1,000 times
Got strong inside these bones
Stopped choking and got moving on
Standing strong…
choose this song
When I’m dead and gone.

Blood or Money?
04:47
|
|||
Canary Wharf towers like a hive full of bees
Stoking up fuel so God saves the Queen
Extending our hopes beyond our means
Stringing us out on a life of dreams
til one man's brief, busy working hour
Demands 100 times the next one’s power
That's how it seems
What is it binds us, is it blood or money?
What can divide us, is it blood or money?
This once flattened land from bombs of war
Forgets the history that binds us all
The same blood that flowed from rich or poor
Was the pain that joined us like never before
And taught us how we're all the same
One flesh and blood, one short lived flame
That's a forgotten law
What is it binds us, is it blood or money?
What can divide us, is it blood or money?
So use the skin, the language, the look or the land,
Use the faith, or the sex, use all you can
Until divided an conquered were less than human
Living off scraps from the unseen hand
But there’s no market, no means test
when you reach death's door
Just the love of a child trusting life holds more
Take that hand
What is it binds us, is it blood or money?
What can divide us, is it blood or money?

Lahore Moon
04:43
|
|||
Turn on the page the new day comes unwritten:
A holy book we're born to find and write,
And carve a brave tale – for the message and
the meaning fire in each gaze of this night
This mad-dash street
Where every soul is a light of God
Is a million cries of ragbag stars & saints
A heart beat in time – a tapestry of survival;
With a stitch of life in every passing face.
Lahore Moon: the only uncrowded place in sight
Look down on us as Allah’s kindly eye
And peer into the atoms with delight
Lahore Moon: alone above the struggles of the
years bend down and hear our prayer
with a mother’s ears
And grow us as you would your only child
So Azaan cry, rise over the clash of this traffic
Tell us there’s more than
fighting our way back to home
Enrapture the air, and cherish this devotion
And conjure more than eyes are shown
Lahore Moon: the only uncrowded place in sight
Look down on us as Allah’s kindly eye
And peer into the atoms with delight
Lahore Moon: alone above the struggles of the
years bend down and hear our prayer
with a mother’s ears
And grow us as you would your only child

Cruel Britannia
04:53
|
|||
Look around you see these buildings,
Don't you think they're mighty boy?
See how those who went before you
placed each stone with pride and joy
All the years of island trading
Gold and goods from foreign lands
Made a country so amazing
Soon we'll leave it in your hands
And here's your story that we'll place
Inside your civic DNA
British men of faith and valour
Stopped the shame of human trade
Wilberforce and Holy Bible:
How the hearts and minds were changed
Not a word of chain and rifle
Bearing those who rule today
Cos this is cruel Britannia
Britannia ruled the waves
Then stole the land
And made the people slaves
All that you see This mighty city
Knew no pity then called itself “Great “Britain
I come from the generation
Whose wallcharts of the modern world were
coloured in to show the nations
Safe beneath our British rule
All that's left is London city
Trading off the blood long gone
From blacker skins whose liberty was
Sacrificed to make us strong
Chorus
This tainted beauty
From guns and duty that
Slaughtered for “Great” Britain
So count your blessings
Count the money in your hands
See the portraits of the men who made us grand
Not the faces of the labourers we damned
To build up Sterling as we went stealing
The riches of our mother earth
Now I've uttered the unspoken
Let me tell you this my son
You've just joined the world's awoken
Who don't see this as Kingdom come.
Who don't see every man an island
Surrounded by a hostile sea
But know that fear is broken down
When can have as each one needs
Not like cruel Britannia..
Britannia ruled the waves and stole the land
Superior to each race
Name them rightly - the high and mighty
The British psyche
Was made in cruel Britannia.

Bush Baby
04:03
|
|||
Born in Toronto married in Lahore
I woke up in France dreaming of us in New York
Lost in downtown, no address and no phone
Now I'm washed up and floundering alone
Bush baby, Sufi lady
Maybe one day we can do that whirling dance
Bush baby, Sufi lady,
Maybe one day we can rise up to the skies
Meet the Prophet and the Christ
Breathing us to life.
Rain on the canvas fizzes in the night
There's a child in my manger waiting for the light
All of my failings, all I've come to know
Are his for the taking now,
It's too late for another go
Hush baby
Bush baby, Sufi lady
Maybe one day we can do that whirling dance
Bush baby, Sufi lady,
Maybe one day we can rise up to the skies
Meet the Prophet and the Christ
Breathing us to life.
